Saddler’s Den was established in March 1996 by Chris Taylor, although Chris had worked in the saddlery trade for many years prior to this.

Chris is a Master Saddler and a member of ‘The Society of Master Saddlers’. In January 2010 his first book ‘Leatherwork a Practical Guide’ was published by ‘The Crowood Press’.

Over the years Chris has developed a reputation for reconstruction of period pieces especially Roman leatherwork for re-enactors. In 2007 he spent a month in China studying a 2,400 year old saddle which was then reproduced. This was commissioned by the McDonald Institute for Archeological Studies, Cambridge University. Chris has also worked for Mounted Police units in the Northwest.

In 2005 Saddler’s Den Saddlery and Leatherwork training courses were started accommodating many satisfied students, some of which have gone on to start there own businesses.

At Saddler’s Den our aim is to  maintain the traditional methods of working to produce top quality saddlery and leather goods. All are made on site and Saddler’s Den does not sell any imported leather goods.

All manner of commissions and repairs are undertaken, in fact there is very little that we cannot make in leather.
